Labor Rights
We will take a firm line against union busting: in particular focus the attacks by large corporations. No worker should face intimidation, retaliation, or coercion for exercising their right to organize. This applies to all companies that operate in Washington, whether in aerospace, tech, logistics, or retail. Union busting is fundamentally “thug behavior” and will not be tolerated.
On labor unions, we will take a balanced, moderate stance: recognizing the importance of strong business fundamentals and healthy economics, while also affirming the vital role of labor unions as a check on corporate power and a safeguard for living wages that support Washington families. A thriving economy requires both competitive businesses and empowered workers, and our policies will reflect that partnership. By maintaining this balance, we can secure both economic growth and dignity for working people.
Support Contract, Gig-Workers and Independent Contractors: We believe in a progressive approach that recognizes the changing nature of work in the 2020s. In 2027, Washington will move boldly to reclassify gig, contract, and independent workers wherever appropriate. We'll look to progressive precedents, like California’s AB 5, which established the stringent “ABC test” to ensure gig workers are classified as employees unless they meet strict independent-contractor criteria.
